BEGINNINGS
I love beginnings. I am delighted consistently when I wake to the first light at dawn, bite into my first peach of the summer, or pick my first daffodil every year. Every day when I open my studio door for the first time, I anticipate and am often surprised at what has been done the day or night before. When I make the first mark on a new stretch of canvas, I thrill at the promise of what will come!
Welcome to Art Matters, a free flowing forum on all the things that take place and matter in the daily life of art -making. There will be esoteric posts on inspirations and aspirations, progress reports on work, and accountings of the mundane that are essential to an artist's undertaking. I will share both my reflections and exasperations. There will be moments of grateful celebrations as well as rueful remembrances. You will be privy to the occasional ramblings of an ordinary person possessed by an extraordinary obsession.
To quote one of my favorite writers, Henry James: "We work in the dark. We do what we can. We give what we have. Our doubt is our passion, and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art."
I am stepping onto virgin ground. Please join me!
